Flynn double-double powers Beavers key rebounding advantage

BOSTON, Mass. (February 4, 2026) – Babson College outrebounded Emerson College by 15, outscoring the hosts 13-2 in second chance points, in securing a 72-60 victory in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Hank Smith Court at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium tonight.

Postgrad Emily Flynn powered Babson's rebounding effort with a double-double of 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds with four assists, a blocked shot and a steal. Sophomore Julia St. Laurent led the Beavers with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal, while classmate Rylie Rosenberg added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and four boards. Senior Allessia Carlo rounded out Babson's double-figure scorers with ten points, three rebounds and three steals.

Babson led all but 4:41, with Emerson holding the lead in a game that included four ties and five lead changes, for just 1:53. All five lead changes and three of the ties came in an opening quarter in which neither team led by more than a possession until Babson scored the final four points of the frame to take the lead (21-17) into the second quarter after a layup from Flynn with 30-seconds on the clock.

English opened the second quarter scoring with a layup off a Babson turnover, but the Beavers followed with nine-straight points, sparked by a Carlo three-pointer, to grab their first double-figure lead (30-19) on a layup from freshman Alyssa Hopps less than three minutes into the frame. The Lions answered with an 11-0 run bookended by three-pointers by juniors Elise Arnold and Kendra Dodd to pull even (30-30) with three minutes remaining in the half.

Babson responded with the next seven points to reclaim the lead (37-30) after a Flynn triple with 1:15 on the clock before settling for a five point (37-32) halftime edge. The Beavers restored their 11-point lead (55-44) after a layup from sophomore Alessa Mendoza midway through the third quarter. Emerson trimmed the lead to six (57-51) after a Frongillo layup with 28-seconds to play in the frame, but Babson scored the final four points of the quarter to carry a double-figure lead (61-51) into the fourth after a Mendoza tip-in at the close of the frame.

Emerson pulled within seven (65-58) after a Frongillo three with 4:43 to play, but could get no closer. Babson scored the next four points to reclaim its double-digit lead (69-58) after a St. Laurent jumper a minute later and held the Lions in check the rest of the way as the hosts managed just 16.7-percent shooting (3-for-18) in the frame, including 1-for-7 (14.3%) from beyond the arc.
