Coast Guard Turns Back Women's Basketball

Stotts scores 43 points to fuel Bears to victory

NEW LONDON, Conn. (February 7, 2026) – Senior Dorothy Stotts poured in 43 points to lead the United States Coast Guard Academy to an 83-74 victory over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball matchup at Roland Hall this afternoon.

Stotts netted 31 of her 43 points in the second half, including 17 of Coast Guard's 27 third quarter points, finishing 14-for-25 shooting from the floor, including 7-of-9 from three-point range, while converting 8-of-10 free-throws with three steals. She hit 10-of-16 shots in the second half, including all four three-pointers.

Sophomores Elliot Geer and Colleen Finnegan each notched double-doubles in support of Stott's outburst. Finnegan posted 19 points and a game-high 16 rebounds (nine offensive) off the bench for Coast Guard, while Geer added 14 points, ten boards, two assists and two steals. Senior Taylor Lynch also pulled down double digit rebounds for the Bears with ten, while dishing out eight assists.

Senior Bri Frongillo had a hand in over half of the Emerson offense with a team-high 26 points on 10-of-21 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three-point distance, and a season-best ten assists for her first double-double of the season (fourth career). Sophomore Jessie Silk added 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Lions, while sophomore Lindsay Gould totaled 12 points and six boards.

The matchup featured nine ties and 13 lead changes and neither team led by more than two possessions until Coast Guard worked a seven-point advantage (38-31) less than two minutes into the third quarter after five-straight points from Stotts. Emerson, which held the lead in the tight contest for just 3:43 all afternoon, reclaimed the lead (49-48) after Silk capped a 9-3 Lions spurt with a pair of free-throws with 3:27 remaining in the quarter.

Coast Guard answered with a 9-2 push of its own, sparked by consecutive Stotts triples, to grab a six point lead (58-52) after a three-point play from Finnegan with 45-seconds remaining in the third. Frongillo scored the final four points of the frame to pull Emerson back within two (58-56) heading to the fourth after a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Frongillo opened the fourth with another triple to put Emerson back into the lead (59-58), but Finnegan and Stotts pushed Coast Guard back in front (64-59) and kickstarted a 16-5 run, led by eight from Stotts, that gave the Bears a ten point lead (74-64) with five minutes to play.

Emerson was still able to draw back within three (77-74) after a Frongillo layup with a minute to play but could get no closer. Finnegan followed with a layup at the other end and Coast Guard sealed the win with four Stotts free throws in the final 21-seconds.
