NEWTON, Mass. (February 27, 2026) – Lasell University, ranked No. 14 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll, swept its way to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-14) victory over Emerson College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's volleyball matchup at the Lasell Athletic Center tonight.
Sophomore Trystan Maloney led Lasell to its second-straight win by dishing out 17 assists to eight different hitters, while collecting a pair of kills himself on three total attacks, with two service aces, six digs and three blocks. Freshman Matthew Mitko totaled a match-high nine kills for the Lasers with four aces and six digs.
First year Cade Ott led Emerson with four kills, five digs and a block assist. Classmate Tucker Sanders dished out a season-high eight assists for the Lions with three digs, while sophomore Cash Muse chipped in three kills and just one error on seven attacks (.286) with an ace, two digs and a solo block.
Lasell used a 15-3 run to erase an early 4-3 deficit in the opening set and open an 18-6 lead and did not look back. Lasell hit .348 as a team with Maloney dishing out nine assists and Mitko tallying four kills while Emerson was hampered by ten attack errors in the set.
The Lasers took control of the second set with a 10-1 run, keyed by three aces, including two from Mitko who also put down three kills in the frame. The third set was also still tight through the first 18 points before Lasell rode an 11-3 run to an eight-point cushion (20-12) it would not relinquish to close out the match. Mitko added two more aces during the run, also posting a kill, as the Lions added nine more attack errors and six service aces.
Emerson (3-9, 0-2 GNAC) returns to action next Thursday, March 5, when it hosts Wheaton College at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Lasell (12-4, 2-0 GNAC) visits Dean College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
