WORCESTER, Mass. (January 31, 2026) – Worcester Polytechnic Institute held Emerson College to a season-low scoring total in posting a 55-41 victory in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action at Harrington Auditorium this afternoon.
Junior Ava Hyams led four from WPI in double figures with a game-high 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting, seven rebounds, an assist and steal. Classmate Ava Giansiracusa added ten points, eight rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and steal, while senior Megan Stone contributed ten points on 4-of-7 shooting and seven boards. Junior Emmy Allyn rounded out the Engineers in double figures with ten points and three rebounds.
Sophomore Jessie Silk returned to the Emerson lineup and posted 11 points, a game-high nine rebounds and five assists. Senior Bri Frongillo was the only other Lion in double-figures with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Junior Claire English chipped in eight points on 4-of-5 shooting and five boards.
WPI scored the final six points of the opening quarter to take the lead (18-17) into the second quarter on a three-pointer from junior Femke Jansen, erasing a five point Emerson lead (17-12) with 1:37 remaining in the first after five-straight points from sophomore Lindsay Gould. The Engineers outscored the Lions 21-11 in the second quarter, closing out the first half with a 15-1 run, keyed by six points from junior Allison Fullem, to take an 11-point advantage (39-28) into halftime.
Emerson would score just 13 points after halftime on 21.7-percent shooting from the floor, including 1-for-12 (8.3%) from three-point distance, as WPI managed the lead from there despite scoring only 16 points themselves. The Lions were still within ten (47-37) after a Frongillo triple with 2:40 to play in the third quarter, but would not score again until four minutes into the fourth when Frongillo ended an Engineers run of eight straight points to open an 18-point margin (55-37) from which the visitors would not recover.
Noteworthy
- Silk returned after a three-game absence and made her 40th career start for Emerson, scoring in double figures for the 13th game this season (28th career) and leading the Lions in rebounding for the 11th time (13th career).
- Frongillo reached double figures for the third-straight game and 11th time this season overall (55th career).
- Despite finishing with one more turnover (12-11), WPI outscored Emerson 13-2 in points off.
- The Engineers also finished with a 43-31 rebounding advantage, holding a 12-3 edge in second chance points.
