Women's Volleyball Falls to Saint Benedict In UMB Tournament Opener

BOSTON – Emerson Women's Volleyball dropped its opening match of the UMass Boston Tournament on Friday (Sept. 5) evening at the Clark Athletic Center. The Lions dropped a 3-0 decision to the College of Saint Benedict.

THE BASICS:

Score: Saint Benedict 3, Emerson 0

Records: Lions (1-2) | Bennies (5-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bennies opened the first set with four straight scores, giving them the early advantage. They eventually scored 10 of the first 12 points and never looked back, earning a decisive 25-14 first set victory.

  • Emerson fared better in the second set, starting the middle act with a 5-1 run. The Lions would open up an 11-6 lead and play back-and-forth ball with the Bennies. However, a 5-0 run late in the set gave CSB a 19-17 lead that it would not relinquish. The Bennies took set two 25-21.

  • Saint Benedict carried that momentum into the third set building a 7-2 lead out of the gate. However, the Lions refused to go quietly, creating a 5-0 run in the middle of the set to tie the game at 12. But the Bennies proved to be too much for the Lions as they held them off to conclude the match with a 25-19 win.
