WESTFIELD, Mass. (September 30, 2025) – Westfield State University leveled with 1:38 to play to force a 2-2 draw with Emerson College in a non-conference men's soccer matchup at Alumni Field tonight.
Senior Cairn Bright scored with just 98 seconds to play as Westfield State overcame a two-goal deficit in the first half to force the draw.
Emerson grabbed a two-goal lead in the opening 23 minutes behind goals from senior Kyler Maira and junior Jason Karas. Maira's third goal of the season opened the scoring just 77-seconds into the contest. Karas doubled the Lions lead in the 24th minute with his first goal of the season (second career) off a feed from senior Diego Garcia-Ocampo. It marks the first point of the season for Garcia-Ocampo.
First-year Owen Klatka sparked the Westfield comeback with the Owls opening goal in the 34th minute. Sophomore Marko Kononenko made two saves without yielding a goal after entering in net at the half for the Owls.
First-year Asa Roberts finished with two saves in goal for Emerson.
Emerson (3-3-4, 0-1-1 NEWMAC) is back in action on Saturday when it returns to NEWMAC play at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, at 2 p.m. The Lions next home match is Saturday, October 11, when they host the United States Coast Guard Academy for a NEWMAC match at Rotch Field at 1 p.m. Westfield State (5-2-2, 1-1-1 MASCAC) visits Massachusetts Maritime on Friday at 7 p.m.
