BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Emerson Men's Soccer picked up a non-conference road loss to Bridgewater State on Tuesday (Sept. 23) night. The Lions fell 2-0 to the Bears at Mazzaferro Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Bridgewater State jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 9th minute from junior Nicholas Ribeiro. Senior Gavin Norton recorded the assist.

Emerson looked to equalize soon after as it put back-to-back shots towards goal in the 17th minute. The Lions held a 3-2 shots advantage in the first half.

The Lions had a few more chances late in the half, including a corner kick in the 35th minute and a blocked shot in the final seconds, but went into the break trailing by one.

The visitors came out aggressive in the second half, registering two shots and a corner kick in the first 12 minutes.

However, it was BSU to strike next with an insurance goal in the 77th minute from junior Tyler Chang with an assist from senior Filippo Mucci.

The two teams were almost even in shot attempts with Bridgewater State holding a slim 7-6 edge. However, Emerson put more shots on frame with a 3-2 advantage.

Emerson also won twice as many corner kicks as their hosts with its six besting BSU's three.

Seniors Diego Garcia-Ocampo and Cade Mallett, plus junior Daniel Bede had the shots on-goal for the Lions.

First year Asa Roberts played all 90 minutes in goal for Emerson, as did Kyle Sullivan for BSU. Roberts did not have to make a save in the contest, while Sullivan made three.
UP NEXT:
Emerson's returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. as it welcomes Salve Regina to Rotch Field for the first home NEWMAC matchup of the season.
