FRANKLIN, Mass. – Emerson Women's Volleyball got back in the win column on Tuesday (Sept. 16) night with a 3-1 non-conference road victory over Dean at Pieri Gymnasium in Franklin, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was all Emerson early in the first set as the Lions opened the match with nine straight points with junior defensive specialist Lauren Yoo on service. Dean broke up the streak at 9-1, but Emerson went right back on the attack, winning the next eight points and cruising to a 25-6 first-set victory.

The Lions started strong in set two as well, winning the first four points and eventually opening up a 6-1 lead. However, Dean found its rhythm to win five of the next seven points. The Bulldogs got the score to 12-9 before the visitors went on a five-point rally to widen the gap to 17-9. Emerson took the second set 25-13.

Emerson looked to be on its way to a sweep in set number three, establishing a 10-5 advantage early on. But Dean was able to battle back with a 7-1 run to take a 12-11 advantage. The teams traded mini runs for the remainder of the game with the hosts eventually pulling out a 25-23 victory.

However, the celebration would be short-lived as Emerson got on top in the fourth set 8-3. A few long point-streaks later, the Lions closed out the match with a 25-11 result.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

First year Delena Garrett had a fantastic match offensively, finishing eight of her 11 attacks without an error for a match-best .727 hitting percentage.

Garrett's classmate Shirley Yu also had an errorless attacking effort with a match-high 12 kills on 21 attacks.

Sophomore setter Chloe Hokenson had 37 assists, while Yoo and Sami Kim both reached double-digit digs with 17 and 11, respectively.

The service game was devastating for Lions on Tuesday night with four student-athletes recording multiple aces, including Kim (6), Hokenson (5), Sophia Schiappa (4), and Yoo (3).

Emerson is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20 as they head to Weston, Mass. for a non-conference tri-match with Regis and Husson.
