NEW LONDON, N.H. – Emerson Women's Soccer capped off its performance in the Colby-Sawyer Kick-Off Classic with a 6-1 result over Westfield State on Sunday (Aug. 31).
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It didn't take long for Emerson to get on the board as first-year Abby Cockerill scored her first collegiate goal in the 12th minute of the contest. Sophomore Kelsea Laughrey and junior Zoe Simmons assisted on the score.
- However, Westfield State was able to equalize in the 24th minute on a goal by senior Julianna Beaulieu.
- The Lions would reclaim the lead in the waning minutes of the first half as senior Linae Bezdek found the back of the net with a helper from Kaylin O'Meara.
- O'Meara recorded a score of her own less than two minutes later with an assist from Laughrey, sending Emerson into halftime up 3-1.
- It was all Emerson in the second half as the Lions added three more goals to their total with first-year Isla McNae, Bezdek, and first-year Rowan McCrary all slotting one each past the WSU goalkeeper.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Emerson had a dominant shot advantage, outshooting Westfield State 17-4, including a 12-3 mark in shots on-goal.
- The Lions also had a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks.
- Bezdek scored two goals and an assist, while Cockerill and O'Meara also had multi-point games with a goal and an assist each.
- Laughrey recorded two assists, while Simmons, Ava Darby, and Kelsey Yoshikawa each had one helper.
- In goal, Hailey Forman made two saves, while playing all 90 minutes.
UP NEXT:
Emerson will have its home opener at Rotch Field on Saturday, Sept. 6 against Suffolk. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
