Women's Soccer Opens 2025 Season With Victory over Husson

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Emerson Women's Soccer opened its 2025 campaign on a high note, earning a 4-1 victory over Husson in the opening round of the Colby-Sawyer Kick-Off Classic. 

THE BASICS:

Score: Emerson 4, Husson 1

Records: Lions (1-0) | Eagles (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior Kate Boldock got Emerson on the board first, beating Husson goalkeeper Madison Weigler in the 20th minute. Sophomore Kayla Sweeney and junior Kaylin O'Meara assisted on the tally.

  • The Eagles were able to equalize less than five minutes later with a score from Devon St. Louis with an assist from Jaquie Pangburn.

  • The Lions would close out the half with senior Linae Bezdek and junior Carmen Talavera finding the back of the net in the 34th and 38th minutes, respectively, to give Emerson a 3-1 lead heading into the break.

  • The score would stay that way until the 86th minute when sophomore Tatum Cohen scored to close out the scoring.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Emerson controlled play in the offensive third, outshooting the Eagles 16-5, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on-goal.

  • The Lions also had a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

  • First-year Abby Cockerill recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on Bezdek's goal.

  • Sophomore Kelsea Laughrey had an assist on Talavera's score.

  • Baldock (1 G, 1 A) and O'Meara each (3 A) each had a game-high three points in the contest.

  • In goal, sophomore Hailey Forman made two saves in the victory.

UP NEXT: 

Emerson will wrap up its visit to New London for the second round of Colby-Sawyer Kick-Off Classic with a meeting against Westfield State on Sunday, Aug. 31 at noon.
