Baseball Falls to MIT Tuesday

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.- The Emerson College baseball team endured a 21-7 loss to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • MIT generated five runs in the top of the first inning to construct an early 5-0 lead.
  • Emerson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 5-2. Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) blasted his team-leading fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to drive in Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.).
  • The Engineers tallied two runs in the second to reclaim a five-run advantage, 7-2.
  • The Lions chalked up two runs in the home half of the second inning to narrow the gap to 7-4. Ethan Gorman (Randolph, N.J.) stole home before John Churchward (Davis, Calif.) tagged up and motored home from third base on a sacrifice fly by Justin Fields (Glen Ridge N.J.).
  • MIT tacked on a pair of runs in the third frame to extend the margin to 9-4.
  • The visitors added two runs in the fourth inning to widen their lead to 11-4.
  • Emerson picked up two runs to trim the deficit to 11-6 in the fifth. Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) and Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) both crossed the dish as Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) reached on an error.
  • MIT plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to grab a 14-6 advantage.
  • The Lions notched a run in the bottom of the seventh to shrink the gap to 14-7. Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) laced a single up the middle to knock in Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas).
  • The Engineers manufactured seven runs in the eighth inning to push their lead to 21-7.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) finished 4-for-4 at the dish with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) posted two hits and two runs scored.
  • Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) chipped in with one base knock, one RBI, and a stolen base.
  • Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) made his second start of the season on the mound and tossed 2.1 innings. Henry Kagan (Pelham, N.Y.), Lukas Phillip (Franklin, Mass.), Jake Morvillo (Glen Ridge, N.J.), Jake Smith (Boyne City, Mich.), and Oliver Low (Arlington, Mass.) all made relief appearances.
