Baseball Swept at Nationally-Ranked Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.- The Emerson College baseball team endured a pair of losses at nationally-ranked Salve Regina Sunday afternoon, falling 13-1 and 10-0.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 1, #13 Salve Regina 13
Records: Lions (8-18, 2-10 NEWMAC) | Seahawks (24-7, 10-3 NEWMAC)


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson jumped ahead 1-0 with a run in the top of the second inning. Tobey Roberts (West Tisbury, Mass.) drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.).
  • Salve Regina responded with six runs in the bottom of the second to claim a 6-1 lead.
  • The Seahawks tacked on five runs in the third to widen the gap to 11-1.
  • The home side added one run in the fourth and sixth innings to cruise to its ninth-straight win.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted one hit and one run scored.
  • Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) and Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) both collected one base knock.
  • Ezra Charles (Baltimore, Md.) threw two innings in his sixth start and finished with three strikeouts. Oliver Low (Arlington, Mass.) worked one inning of relief and Jake Smith (Boyne City, Mich.) pitched three frames and fanned two batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Salve Regina chalked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to snag a 2-0 edge.
  • The Seahawks doubled their advantage to 4-0 with two runs in the third.
  • The hosts added a run in the fourth inning to stretch the margin to 5-0.
  • Salve Regina produced four runs in the bottom of the sixth frame to widen its lead to 9-0.
  • The Seahawks tallied a run in the seventh to secure a 10-0 victory.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Ethan Gorman (Randolph, N.J.) notched Emerson's lone hit in the contest and swiped a base.
  • Aidan Rice (Columbus, Ohio) hurled six innings and recorded three strikeouts before Shane Moriarty (Greenville, S.C.) made his ninth appearance out of the bullpen.
