Baseball Suffers 7-3 Setback at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Emerson College baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tuesday afternoon.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • MIT tallied a run in the bottom of the first frame to snag a 1-0 edge.
  • The Engineers produced three runs in the second inning to widen the margin to 4-0.
  • Emerson got on the board in the top of the third, chalking up three runs to cut the deficit to 4-3. Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.) belted his first home run of the season to drive in Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.). Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) laced a single to centerfield to plate Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.).
  • The hosts picked up a run in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-3.
  • MIT tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth to stretch the gap to 7-3.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.) finished with two RBIs, one hit, and one run scored.
  • Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) added one base knock and one RBI.
  • Aiden Rice (Columbus, Ohio) pitched five innings and posted one strikeout in his 10th start. Ezra Charles (Baltimore, Md.) tossed two innings of relief and fanned one batter. Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) worked one inning and registered one strikeout in his team-leading 14th appearance out of the bullpen.
