Softball Drops Doubleheader at Babson Saturday

BABSON PARK, Mass.- The Emerson College softball team absorbed a pair of losses at Babson Saturday afternoon, falling 7-1 and 3-1.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 1, Babson 7
Records: Lions (15-10, 7-4 NEWMAC) | Beavers (17-9, 8-5 NEWMAC)


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Babson tallied one run in the bottom of the second inning to seize a 1-0 edge.
  • Emerson chalked up a run in the top of the fourth to level the game at 1-1. Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) laced a single back up the middle to drive in Danica Miles (Toms River, N.J.).
  • The Beavers responded with one run in the home half of the fourth to reclaim a one-run lead, 2-1.
  • Babson manufactured four runs in the fifth inning to widen the gap to 6-1.
  • The home side tacked on a run in the sixth to stretch the margin to 7-1.
     

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) posted one hit and one RBI.
  • Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) chipped in with one base knock.
  • Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) pitched 4.2 innings and recorded five strikeouts. Kate Regan (Manchester, Conn.) worked 1.1 innings of relief and fanned one batter.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Babson grabbed an early 1-0 lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • The Beavers added a pair of runs in the second to push their advantage to 3-0.
  • Emerson got on the board in the fifth inning, scoring one run to cut the deficit to 3-1. Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.) crossed the dish on a defensive miscue with two outs in the frame.
