Softball Salvages Split with Clark Friday

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College softball team dropped a 3-2 decision before rolling to an 8-0 victory over Clark Friday afternoon at Rotch Field.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 2, Clark 3
Records: Lions (14-9, 6-3 NEWMAC) | Cougars (12-12, 3-5 NEWMAC)


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson chalked up a run in the bottom of the second inning to seize a 1-0 edge. Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.) roped a double off the wall in left field to drive in Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.).
  • Clark answered with a run in the top of the third to level the contest at 1-1.
  • The Cougars plated one run in the fourth inning to snag a 2-1 lead.
  • The Lions scored once in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game at 2-2. Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) laced a single up the middle to knock in Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.).
  • Clark manufactured the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, capturing a 3-2 advantage.
     

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) posted two hits and one RBI.
  • Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) collected two base hits and scored one run.
  • Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) added one hit and one stolen base.
  • Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) pitched a complete game and fanned six batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson tallied three runs in the bottom of the first inning to claim a 3-0 lead. Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) crossed the dish on a defensive miscue in the outfield. Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) landed a single down the left field line to drive in Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) and Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.).
  • The Lions produced five runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 8-0. With the bases loaded, Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) raked a single up the middle to plate Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.). Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) followed with a three-run home run to left field to score Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) and Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.).


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) tallied two hits, three RBIs, and a pair of runs scored.
  • Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) notched two hits and two RBIs.
  • Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) registered two hits and one run scored.
  • Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) added two RBIs, one base knock, and one run scored.
  • Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) twirled a complete-game gem in the pitcher's circle, finishing with six strikeouts while allowing just one hit after carrying a perfect-game into the fifth inning.
