Women’s Lacrosse Upended by Smith

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's lacrosse team dropped a 25-11 decision to Smith Wednesday evening at Rotch Field.


THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 11, Smith 25
Records: Lions (5-9, 1-8 NEWMAC) | Pioneers (10-6, 6-3 NEWMAC)


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Smith poured in eight unanswered goals in the first quarter to establish an 8-0 lead after 15 minutes of action.
  • Emerson cut the deficit to 12-7 with four minutes remaining in the second period before the Pioneers tallied four consecutive goals to hold a 16-7 advantage at the half.
  • The visitors outscored the home side 5-1 in the third to widen the margin to 21-8.
  • Smith finished with a 4-3 edge in fourth-quarter scoring to secure its fifth-straight victory.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Ava DelliCompagni (Coatesville, Pa.) paced the Lions with three goals and two assists to go with four ground ball and a pair of draw controls.
  • Ava Selby (Boonsboro, Md.) netted three goals and collected five draw controls.
  • Laura Lovell (Norwalk, Conn.) notched two goals and one assist.
  • Grace Danehy (Mansfield, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of goals.
  • Lindsey Wettstein (South Hempstead, N.Y.) registered eight saves in her third start of the year. Ellie Spotts (Corona del Mar, Calif.) took over between the pipes at halftime and finished with one save.
  • Emerson concluded the contest with 19 shots while Smith racked up 38 shot attempts.
