Softball Sweeps Series at Smith Monday

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Emerson College softball team claimed a pair of wins at Smith Monday afternoon, triumphing 5-1 and 8-3.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 5, Smith 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson scored twice in the top of the first to snag a quick 2-0 lead. Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) roped a triple to drive in Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) before crossing the dish on an RBI groundout by Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.).
  • Smith got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, tallying one run to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • The Lions chalked up three runs in the seventh to extend their advantage to 5-1. Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) tagged up and scampered home from third base on a sacrifice fly by Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.). Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) singled to centerfield to plate Mackenzie Rice (Severna Park, Md.). Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) landed a two-out base hit to knock in Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.).

  • Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) finished with two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
  • Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) notched two base hits and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson manufactured two runs in the top of the first inning to establish a 2-0 edge. Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) laced a single to centerfield to plate Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) and Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.).
  • Smith responded with a pair of runs in the home half of the first to level the contest at 2-2.
  • The Pioneers picked up a run in the third inning to grab a 3-2 lead.
  • The Lions tallied a run in the top of the fourth frame to pull even at 3-3. Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.) scurried home from third base on an RBI groundout by Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.).
  • Emerson produced two runs in the fifth to capture a 5-3 advantage. Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.) scorched an infield hit to drive in Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) before Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) crossed the dish on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.).
  • The visitors tacked on three runs in the top of the six to stretch the margin to 8-3. Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) slapped a single to left field to knock in Danica Miles (Toms River, N.J.). Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.) raked a base hit to centerfield to score Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) and Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.).
