NEWPORT, R.I.- The Emerson College softball team defeated Salve Regina 5-2 and 10-3 Friday afternoon.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Emerson rattled off three runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early 3-0 lead. Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) slapped a single to left-centerfield to drive in Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) and Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.). Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) crossed the dish as the visitors executed a double-steal with two outs in the inning.
- Salve Regina got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring one run to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Lions tacked on a run in the fourth to reclaim a three-run advantage, 4-1. Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) laced a single to right field to plate Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) from third base.
- The Seahawks answered with one run in the home half of the fourth inning to cut the gap to 4-2.
- Emerson added a run in the seventh to push its lead to 5-2. Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) scampered home from third on an RBI groundout by Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Avi Kuperman (Newton, Mass.) posted three RBIs, one hit, and a stolen base.
- Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) finished with one hit, one stolen base, and a pair of runs scored.
- Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) tossed her seventh complete game of the spring and recorded nine strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Emerson chalked up four runs in the top of the second inning to capture a 4-0 lead. Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.) scurried home from third base on a wild pitch before Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly by Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.). Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) scorched a base knock to drive in Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) and Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.).
- Salve Regina picked up a run in the third to narrow the gap to 4-1.
- The Seahawks plated one run in the fifth inning to pull to within two, 4-2.
- The Lions manufactured four runs in the top of the sixth to stretch the margin to 8-2. Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.), Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.), Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.), and Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) all collected RBI base hits in the frame.
- Emerson added a pair of runs in the seventh to extend its lead to 10-2. Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) roped a two-out triple to plate Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) and Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.).
- The home side managed one run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 10-3.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) and Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) both notched three RBIs, three hits, and one run scored.
- Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) finished with two runs scored, two RBIs, and one base knock.
- Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) posted two hits and a run scored.
- Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) chipped in with one hit and two runs scored.
- Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) pitched three innings in her sixth start and fanned three batters. Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) worked four innings of relief and registered six strikeouts.
