Baseball Falters at Wesleyan Thursday

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Emerson College baseball team endured a 24-6 loss at Wesleyan Thursday afternoon.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson raced out to a 1-0 edge in the top of the first inning. Robby Posio (Queens, N.Y.) landed a single in left field to knock in Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.).
  • Wesleyan answered with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Lions reclaimed the lead in the third frame, manufacturing four runs to capture a 5-1 advantage. Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) laced a single to centerfield to plate Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) from second base. Robby Posio (Queens, N.Y.) collected his second hit of the day, driving in Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) and Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.). Avery Smith (Burlington, Vt.) roped a single to left-centerfield to score Robby Posio (Queens, N.Y.).
  • Emerson tacked on a run in the top of the fourth inning to extend the margin to 6-1.
  • The Cardinals produced seven runs in the bottom of the frame to seize an 8-6 edge.
  • The home side tallied 11 runs in the fifth inning to widen the gap to 19-6.
  • Wesleyan added five runs in the sixth to push its lead to 24-6.
