Softball Splits Opening Day Games

COCOA BEACH, Fla.- The Emerson College softball team dropped a 9-4 decision to Concordia before topping Anna Maria 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Space Coast Spring Games to open the 2025 campaign.


EMERSON VS. CONCORDIA
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Concordia seized a 1-0 edge with one run in the top of the first inning.
  • The Cobbers plated five runs in the second to extend their lead to 6-0.
  • Emerson got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, scoring a run to trim the deficit to 6-1. Mackenzie Rice (Severna Park, Md.) scampered home from third base on an RBI groundout by Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.).
  • Concordia produced three runs in the top of the fifth frame to widen its advantage to 9-1.
  • The Lions tallied one run in the home half of the fifth to narrow the gap to 9-2. Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) drove in Mackenzie Rice (Severna Park, Md.) from third with an infield hit to collect her second RBI of the game.
  • Emerson chalked up two runs in the sixth inning to cut the margin to 9-4. Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) roped a two-out single to left field to knock in Ally Lacey (Londonderry, N.H.) and Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.).


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) racked up two hits and two RBIs.
  • Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) finished with two RBIs and one base knock.
  • Mackenzie Rice (Severna Park, Md.) notched a pair of runs scored and one stolen base.
  • Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.) chipped in with one base hit and one run scored.
  • Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) tossed 4.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts in her first start of the spring. Kate Regan (Manchester, Conn.) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief and fanned two batters.

  • Anna Maria tallied one run in the bottom of the first to establish an early 1-0 edge.
  • Emerson answered with two runs in the second to snag a 2-1 lead. Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) launched a solo home run to lead off the frame. Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.) laced a single to drive in Izzi Shaffer (Tyngsborough, Mass.).
  • The Lions manufactured a run in the top of the seventh inning to double their advantage to 3-1. Mackenzie Rice (Severna Park, Md.) crossed the dish as Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) reached base on a fielder's choice.
  • The AMCats scored a run in the home half of the seventh to cut the deficit to 3-2.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Jessica Gomez (West Chester, Pa.) landed a team-high three hits to go with one stolen base.
  • Grace Beaulieu (Rochester, N.H.) and Sam Zannotti (Dudley, Mass.) both posted two hits in the contest.
  • Riley Caiazza (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) finished with one base hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
  • Carly Rosenberger (Conshohocken, Pa.) added one hit and one RBI.
  • In the pitcher's circle, Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) spun a complete game and recorded seven strikeouts.

ON DECK:
Emerson returns to the diamond March 9 to face Marietta and Nebraska Wesleyan.
