Baseball Swept at Nationally-Ranked Babson Saturday

BABSON PARK, Mass.- The Emerson College baseball team absorbed two losses at Babson Saturday afternoon, falling 11-0 and 12-1. The Beavers entered the twinbill ranked No. 20 in the latest D3Baseball.com/NCBWA National Poll.


GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 0, Babson 11
Records: Lions (6-9, 0-2 NEWMAC) | Beavers (10-4, 2-0 NEWMAC)


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Babson scored twice in the top of the third inning to grab a 2-0 lead.
  • The Beavers added a run in the fourth to widen the gap to 3-0.
  • Babson tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth to stretch the margin to 5-0.
  • The Beavers manufactured six runs in the seventh to claim an 11-0 advantage.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) collected the Lions' lone hit in the contest.
  • Aidan Rice (Columbus, Ohio) pitched 5.1 innings and finished with three strikeouts. Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) and Shane Moriarty (Greenville, S.C.) both made relief appearances.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Babson opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, plating two runs to construct a 2-0 edge.
  • The Beavers chalked up one run in the fourth to push their lead to 3-0.
  • Babson tallied three runs in the fifth inning to double its advantage to 6-0.
  • The Beavers added three runs in the top of the sixth to extend the margin to 9-0.
  • Babson picked up three runs in the seventh to widen the gap to 12-0.
  • Emerson got on the board in the home half of the seventh inning to trim the deficit to 12-1. Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) crossed the dish as Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) reached base on an error.
