Eighth-Inning Rally Propels Baseball Past Clark, 12-8

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.- The Emerson College baseball team captured its first NEWMAC win of the season Tuesday afternoon, a 12-8 victory over Clark at the New England Baseball Complex.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson pounced on an early lead, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning. Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) laced a double to left-centerfield to drive in Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.). Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) landed an RBI single in centerfield to plate Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) from second base.
  • The Lions tacked on three runs in the second to extend their advantage to 5-0. Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) roped a triple to left-centerfield to knock in Nicholas Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) and Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.). Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) followed with a base hit up the middle to collect his second RBI of the game, scoring Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) from third base.
  • Emerson added two runs in the home half of the third frame to widen the margin to 7-0.
  • Clark got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, tallying three runs to trim the deficit to 7-3.
  • The Cougars picked up one run in the fifth to narrow the gap to 7-4.
  • Clark chalked up a run in the top of the seventh inning to pull to within two runs, 7-5.
  • The Cougars plated a pair of runs in the eighth to knot the contest at 7-7.
  • Emerson rallied to score five runs in the home half of the eighth inning to claim a 12-7 advantage. Tobey Roberts (West Tisbury, Mass.) produced two RBIs while Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.), Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.), and Briggs Loveland (Burleston, Texas) all added one RBI.
  • Clark managed one run in the top of the ninth as the Lions held on to secure their first conference win of the season, 12-8.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.) finished with three base hits, three runs scored, and one stolen base.
  • Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) notched three hits, three RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
  • Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) posted three hits, two RBIs, and one run scored.
  • Tobey Roberts (West Tisbury, Mass.) chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Angelo Deer (West Orange, N.J.) tossed four innings and fanned four batters in his fifth start of the season.
  • Oliver Low (Arlington, Mass.) worked three frames of relief and recorded four strikeouts. Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) pitched one inning and picked up the win on the mound. Henry Kagan (Pelham, N.Y.) threw two-thirds of an inning before Shane Moriarty (Greenville, S.C.) pitched the final out of the game to record his first save.
