Baseball Falters at Clark in NEWMAC-Opener

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Emerson College baseball team dropped a 9-7 decision at Clark Tuesday afternoon in the first New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the spring.


THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 7, Clark 9
Records: Lions (5-8, 0-1 NEWMAC) | Cougars (12-4, 1-0 NEWMAC)
 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Clark captured a 1-0 edge with one run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Emerson erupted for six runs in the top of the third to claim a 6-1 lead. Nicholas Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) crossed the dish as Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) reached on an error. Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) followed with a single to drive in Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.) from third base. Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) scorched a base knock to left field to plate Charlie Coors (Golden, Colo.) and Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.). Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) roped a two-out double to left field to score Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) and Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.).
  • The Cougars responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame to knot the game at 6-6.
  • Clark chalked up three runs in the sixth inning to grab a 9-6 advantage.
  • The Lions produced one run in the top of the ninth to trim the gap to 9-7. Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to drive in Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.).


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Nick Hubbe (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished with three hits and two runs scored.
  • Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.) collected three base hits to go with one run scored and one stolen base.
  • Jake Okamoto (Placentia, Calif.) posted three RBIs and one base knock.
  • Justin Fields (Glen Ridge, N.J.) chipped in with a pair of hits, a run scored, and one stolen base.
  • Angelo Deer (West Orange, N.J.) pitched three innings and notched three strikeouts in his fourth start of the year. Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) tossed two scoreless innings in his sixth relief appearance. Ezra Charles (Baltimore, Md.), Henry Kagan (Pelham, N.Y.), and Oliver Low (Arlington, Mass.) all worked one inning of relief.
