Women’s Lacrosse Edged by Mount Holyoke, 19-18

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's lacrosse team dropped a high-scoring affair to Mount Holyoke Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field, falling 19-18.


THE BASICS:
Score: Emerson 18, Mount Holyoke 19

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Mount Holyoke netted five unanswered goals to start the contest before Emerson closed out the frame with a 6-1 run as the teams ended the opening period deadlocked at 6-6.
  • The Lions edged the Lyons 5-4 in second quarter scoring to cling to a 11-10 halftime advantage.
  • The visitors outscored the home side 7-2 in the third to claim a 17-13 lead.
  • Emerson clawed back with three consecutive goals in less than a minute to trim the gap to 18-17 with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Mount Holyoke tallied a goal with 3:57 on the clock to seize a two-goal lead, 19-17.
  • The Lions pulled to within one, 19-18, with 1:40 left to play in the fourth quarter as Laina Gustafson (Cross Plains, Wisc.) netted her third goal of the game.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Ava DelliCompagni (Coatesville, Pa.) racked up 11 points on the afternoon, scoring five goals and dishing out six assists while collecting a team-high six draw controls.
  • Ava Selby (Boonsboro, Md.) finshed with four goals and two assists.
  • Laura Lovell (Norwalk, Conn.) posted a season-high four goals.
  • Callie Krosin (Pikesville, Md.) chipped in with four assists and a pair of goals.
  • Between the pipes, Ellie Spotts (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) registered nine saves.
  • Emerson manufactured 39 shots on the afternoon while Mount Holyoke concluded the contest with 40 shot attempts.
