Baseball Tops Colby-Sawyer 7-2 on Opening Day

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.- The Emerson College baseball team collected a 7-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer in the first game of the 2025 season Saturday at the New England Baseball Complex.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson tallied three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to capture a 3-0 lead. Blake Benway (Fairfield, Conn.) scorched a pinch-hit double down the left field line to drive in Chris Ferara (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.). Two batters later, Jordi Arboleda (New York, N.Y.) slapped a two-out single to right field to plate Blake Benway (Fairfield, Conn.) from third base.
  • The Lions tacked on three runs in the sixth to widen the gap to 6-0. Jordi Arboleda (New York, N.Y.) laced a base hit to left field to score Braeden O'Connell (Boxford, Mass.). After Blake Benway (Fairfield, Conn.) scampered home from third on a wild pitch, Ethan Gorman (Randolph, N.J.) raked a double to knock in Jordi Arboleda (New York, N.Y.).
  • Emerson added a run in the home half of the seventh to stretch the margin to 7-0. Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) launched a lead-off home run down the right field line.
  • Colby-Sawyer got on the board in the top of the eighth inning, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 7-2.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Jordi Arboleda (New York, N.Y.) notched two hits, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and one run scored.
  • Blake Benway (Fairfield, Conn.) posted two runs scored, two RBIs, and one base knock.
  • Briggs Loveland (Burleson, Texas) added one RBI, one hit, and a run scored.
  • Aidan Rice (Columbus, Ohio) started on the mound and tossed five shutout innings while fanning four batters.
  • Tyler Metcalf (Louisville, Ky.) pitched three innings of relief and registered two strikeouts. Shane Moriarty (Greenville, S.C.) worked one inning and allowed just one hit.

Emerson returns to the diamond March 5 to face Elms.
