Men’s Basketball Notches Pivotal 87-72 Win at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I.- The Emerson College men's basketball team secured an 87-72 victory at Salve Regina Saturday in the final regular-season contest.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson captured a 12-point lead with 5:49 left to play in the first half, 35-23, as Trevor Arico (Saline, Mich.) converted a pair of free throws.
  • The Lions boasted a 46-36 advantage at the halftime break.
  • Emerson stretched the margin to 82-63 with less than three minutes remaining on two free throws by Guillermo Gasset Ruiz (Malaga, Spain).
  • The visitors outscored the home team 41-36 in the second stanza to collect a key conference victory.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Trevor Arico (Saline, Mich.) poured in a game-high 34 points.
  • Linus Helmhold (Krefeld, Germany) posted his third double-double of the year, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 boards.
  • Shay Roban (Long Island, N.Y.) notched 11 points off the bench.
  • Guillermo Gasset Ruiz (Malaga, Spain) chipped in with nine points while Lucas Brenner (Miami, Fla.) added eight points.
  • Emerson shot 51.6% from the floor and 38.5% from the perimeter on the afternoon.
  • Salve Regina posted a field-goal percentage of 45% and connected on 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.
  • Brad Fowler scored 26 points to lead the Seahawks while Sean Seymour recorded 18 points off the bench and Jojo Powers tallied 16 points.

NEWMAC TOURNAMENT:
Emerson finished the regular season with a 7-9 record in conference play and will make its sixth-straight trip to the NEWMAC Tournament with postseason action beginning February 25.
