Women’s Basketball Downed at Nationally-Ranked Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's basketball team suffered a 69-51 setback at league-leading Smith Wednesday. The Pioneers are currently ranked No. 9 in the latest WBCA National Poll and No. 10 in the D3Hoops.com National Poll.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson ended the first quarter with an 8-0 run to erase a 17-10 deficit and hold an 18-17 edge.
  • The Pioneers outscored the Lions 16-12 in the second period to sport a narrow 33-30 lead at the half.
  • The home side strung together an 11-2 run to close out the third frame with a 47-39 advantage.
  • Smith stretched the margin to 20 points with 4:35 left to play in the fourth on a trey by Ally Landau, 62-42.
  • The Pioneers poured in 22 points in the fourth quarter while Emerson chalked up 13 points as the hosts collected their 17-straight conference win.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) registered 13 points and nine rebounds.
  • Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) notched 10 points and four boards.
  • Kendra Dodd (Tampa, Fla.) tallied eight points and Kaylin O'Meara (Littleton, Mass.) added seven points.
  • Emerson finished with a field-goal percentage of 31% to go with 31.6% shooting from three-point distance.
  • Smith shot 34.3% from the floor and knocked down just 4-of-20 from beyond the arc.
  • Ella Sylvester paced the Pioneers with a game-high 23 points while Jane Loo chipped in with 13 points.

Emerson travels to Springfield February 22 to conclude the regular season.
