#4 Tufts Downs Men's Basketball

Gyimesi leads three Jumbos in double figures with game-high 20 points

BOSTON, Mass. (November 20, 2025) – Tufts University, ranked No. 4 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III poll, opened a nine point lead five minutes into the game on its way to a 24 point halftime advantage and didn't look back in posting an 84-50 victory over Emerson College in a non-conference men's basketball matchup at Smith and Smith Court on the campus of Suffolk University tonight.

Senior Scott Gyimesi led three double-figure scorers for Tufts with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting, hitting both three-point attempts and converting all six free-throw attempts, with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Classmate Joshua Bernstein added 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots, while junior Zion Watt contributed ten points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-for-4 from deep, six boards and two assists.

Senior Linus Helmhold was the lone Emerson player in double-figures with ten points, four rebounds, an assist, blocked shot and steal. Postgrad Otto Luessenhop added seven points off the bench for the Lions, while sophomore Roman Leraris chipped in a career-high six points, connecting on 2-of-4 three-pointers, with two rebounds, an assist and steal off the bench for the Lions.

Junior Guillermo Gasset Ruiz scored the opening basket for a quick Emerson lead, but Tufts scored the next nine points, including a Watt three-pointer, to grab a seven-point lead (9-2) less than four minutes into the game. The Lions drew within six (12-6) after a Luessenhop three-pointer, but the Jumbos continued to flex their muscle by opening an 18-point cushion (25-7) following back-to-back layups by Bernstein.

Tufts went on to carry a 24-point lead (37-13) into halftime and would not look back.

  • Helmhold reached double-figures in scoring for the third time this season (21st career).
