BOSTON, Mass. (November 1, 2025) – Gordon College picked up a 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-23) victory over Emerson College in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium this evening.
Junior Annika Schmitt engineered a Gordon attack that finished hitting .248 with a pair of double-figure kill performances with 33 assists, adding two service aces and 12 digs. Classmate Annie Zimmerman (Austin, Texas/St. Andrews Episcopal) delivered a match-high 14 kills without a hitting error for a .424 attack percentage on the evening, adding seven digs and three block assists, while sophomore Haley Hutzler contributed a double-double with 13 kills, 12 digs and two aces. Junior Amanda Pierce totaled 16 digs for the Fighting Scots.
Sophomore Chloe Hokenson led Emerson with a double-double of 13 kills and 14 assists, adding six digs. Classmate Sophia Schiappa delivered 19 assists, five aces, six kills and just one error for a .385 hitting percentage with nine digs. Junior Lauren Yoo contributed a match-high 21 digs and three assists.
Gordon rallied from a 20-13 deficit to take the opening set 28-26 as Zimmerman hit .462 with six kills and the Scots posted four blocks and fought off eight Emerson aces in the set. Zimmerman posted four of her six kills in the opening set during Gordon's clinching run.
Gordon led start to finish in the second set with Schmitt dishing out ten assists to four different hitters, including a trio with three kills each, including Zimmerman and Hutzler. The Fighting Scots closed out the match by finishing off a third set that featured nine ties and four lead changes behind 12 more Schmitt assists as Hutzler collected six kills and Zimmerman five with one combined attack error between them as Zimmerman delivered the final two points for the Scots.
Emerson (13-13, 5-4 NEWMAC) returns to action on Tuesday night when it opens the final week of the NEWMAC schedule on Boylston Street by hosting Wellesley College here at Brown & Plofker Gym at 7 p.m. Gordon (19-8, 5-3 CNE) visits Nichols College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
