BOSTON, Mass. (November 4, 2025) – Sophomore Chloe Hokenson delivered her second triple-double of the season to lead Emerson College to a key 3-2 (25-16, 24-26, 23-25, 25-20, 15-8) triumph over Wellesley College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball matchup at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium tonight.
Hokenson's second triple-double of the season is the fourth of her career, finishing with 15 kills, 18 assists and 18 digs to go with three service aces and a block. Classmate Sophia Schiappa added a double-double for the Lions with 19 assists and ten digs, serving up four aces, while junior Lauren Yoo totaled a career-high 26 digs with four aces and four assists.
First-year Lizi Horning led the Emerson hitters with a season-high 16 kills, while classmate Catherine McDonough posted a season-best ten kills for the Lions with just one error on 12 total attacks for a .750 hitting percentage and a block. Junior Rachel Dickerson rounded out the Lions four double-figure hitters with 11 kills and three aces.
Senior Kaija Kunze-Hoeg led all hitters with 21 kills for Wellesley, completing her double-double with 13 kills and two blocks. Sophomore Else Kunze-Hoeg delivered 32 assists and 13 digs for the Blue, while junior Evie Hill and first-year Natalie Dabrowski each contributed ten kills.
Emerson led the opening set start to finish to gain a quick edge in the match behind five service aces and three kills from first-year Shirley Yu. Wellesley reversed the one set advantage by taking the second and third by just two points apiece. Dabrowski totaled four kills on nine total attacks, with Else Kunze-Hoeg distributing eight assists in the third set for the Blue, while Kaija Kunze-Hoeg totaled five kills on 17 attacks in the third set.
Emerson rallied behind six Horning kills in the fourth set to force a fifth, where she added four more kills as the Lions closed out the match and sewed up a winning record in NEWMAC play for the first time in three years.
Emerson (14-13, 6-4 NEWMAC) returns to action on Saturday when it closes out the regular season at Coast Guard Academy for a NEWMAC match at 1 p.m. Wellesley (11-12. 4-6 NEWMAC) hosts Smith College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
