Frongillo Nets Game-Winner as Women’s Hoops Tops Coast Guard, 93-91

BOSTON, Mass.- Junior Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) capped off a 44-point performance with a last-second, game-winning basket to lift the Emerson College women's basketball team to a thrilling 93-91 win over Coast Guard Saturday afternoon at Hank Smith Court at the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After Coast Guard grabbed a 13-6 lead, Emerson battled back to cut the deficit to 15-13 on a layup by Kaylin O'Meara (Littleton, Mass.) with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter.
  • The Bears closed out the opening period with a 10-2 run to own a 27-17 advantage.
  • The visitors scored 23 points in the second frame, shooting 71.4% from the floor, while the Lions chalked up 18 points in the quarter as Coast Guard sported a 50-35 lead at the half.
  • Emerson edged Coast Guard 23-21 in third-quarter scoring to trim the margin to 71-58 heading into the final period.
  • The home side leveled the game at 80-80 with 3:39 remaining in regulation as Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) knocked down a pull-up jumper.
  • The Bears seized a three-point lead with 1:16 left to play as Farrah Peterein drilled a corner trey, 87-84.
  • After a put-back layup by Charlotte Levison (Atherton, Calif.) narrowed the gap to 87-86, Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) converted a pair of free throws to give Emerson an 88-87 edge with 34 seconds on the clock.
  • Coast Guard responded with a basket by Dorothy Stotts to regain the lead, 89-88, with 28 seconds to go.
  • The Lions captured a 91-89 advantage with 18 seconds remaining as Kendra Dodd (Tampa, Fla.) splashed a three-pointer from the left wing.
  • The guests knotted the game on a layup by Farrah Peterein with 13 seconds on the clock, 91-91.
  • On the final play of regulation, Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) dropped in a clutch floater to vault the hosts ahead 93-91 and clinch Emerson's third-consecutive league win.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) registered her third double-double of the year, scoring a career-high 44 points while adding 12 assists.
  • Kendra Dodd (Tampa, Fla.) notched 15 points to go with four rebounds.
  • Charlotte Levison (Atherton, Calif.) posted 14 points, six boards, and three blocks.
  • Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) finished with 10 points while Claire English (Winchester, Mass.) recorded eight points and 10 rebounds.
  • Emerson shot 47.1% from the floor and 45.8% from the perimeter.
  • Coast Guard concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 54.9% while connecting on 5-of-19 from beyond the arc.
  • Dorothy Stotts paced the Bears with 27 points while Kelly Hagerty added 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
