NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's soccer team absorbed a 2-1 setback at Smith in the first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match of the fall Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Emerson captured a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute as Zoe Simmons (Los Angeles, Calif.) netted her first goal of the year.
- Smith leveled the match at 1-1 in the 37th minute, benefitting from an own goal.
- The home side tallied the go-ahead score in the 69th minute to claim a 2-1 advantage as Amelia Dion notched her first marker.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Maddie Khaw (Portland, Ore.) and Zoe Simmons (Los Angeles, Calif.) both recorded four shots while Kayla Sweeney (Flourtown, Pa.) and Kelsea Laughrey (Redondo Beach, Calif.) each added three attempts.
- Amara Schaub (Torrance, Calif.) finished with a pair of saves in goal.
- Emerson manufactured 20 shots in the contest while Smith produced 12 attempts.
