HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with Wellesley's Finley Tipton opening the scoring at 13:22 for her 35th goal of the season. Finley scored again not long after at 12:31 to put Wellesley up 2-0 early.
Lauren Longstreet put Emerson on the board at 10:35. The goal was the 100th of her career.
Callie Krosin tied it up for Emerson at 9:45 with
Ava DelliCompagni getting credit for an assist. Krosin then put the Lions in the lead by herself at 7:11, marking her 16th goal of the season and recording her own 100th career goal. The quarter would end with Emerson ahead 6-5.
Both teams scored in the first two minutes of the second quarter to put the Lions up 7-6. Longstreet scored first with 13:59 remaining, and Wellesley responded almost instantly with a goal by Willa McGough on a free-position shot. The rest of the quarter saw Emerson score five unanswered goals to lead 12-6 going into halftime. The Lions would score first coming out of the break period, as Longstreet tallied her sixth of the day and 29th for the season with 14:00 remaining. Wellesley would shorten the lead to 13-9 with 10:00 remaining, and both teams scored twice in those final ten minutes to put the score at 15-11.
Emerson struck first in the final period, as
Grace Danehy scored at 11:04 for her 17th of the season. Goals by the Tipton at 10:20 and Lillian Games at 9:38, assisted by Katie McCabe, cut down the Lions' lead to 16-13. DelliCompagni got one back almost immediately, scoring at 8:31 off the assist from Krosin. The Blue would score two more in the remaining minutes, as Tipton recorded her 39th of the season off an assist by McCabe with 4:48 remaining and Gabrielle Shell got one past
Ellie Spotts with 0:07 on the board. Emerson held on in the end, winning by a score of 17-15.
