Clark Takes Down Women's Lacrosse, 18-11, on Senior Night

Venue: Rotch Field
Start Time: 6:00 p.m.

BOSTON, MA - Emerson College hosted Clark University on Wednesday evening for a NEWMAC women's lacrosse matchup. It was Senior Night at Rotch Field, with Lauren Longstreet (Alamo, CA) and Maddy Reyes (San Ramon, CA) being honored for their contributions to Emerson women's lacrosse.

The Cougars spoiled the night with a 16-goal first half, propelling themselves to an 18-11 victory over their hosts. Clark improves their record to 6-7 (2-5 NEWMAC) on the season, while Emerson moves to 4-7 (1-5 NEWMAC) after the loss.

Longstreet led Emerson in scoring with five goals on the night. Ava Selby (So. - Boonsboro, MD) was effective on both sides of the ball, tallying three goals and four caused turnovers. Ellie Spotts (So. - Corona Del Mar, CA) played all 60 minutes in goal and nabbed eight saves.

Elizabeth Liakos (Gr. - Arlington, MA) scored five goals to lead Clark while Kami Labella (Fy. - Watertown, CT) scored four goals and caused four turnovers. Erin Lucas (Jr. - Ludlow, MA) scored three and racked up eleven draw controls. Annie Battle (Jr. - Boseman, MT) made seven saves and picked up the win while Victoria Holden (So. - Westfield, MA) made three saves after subbing in for Battle in the third quarter.

Emerson stayed close to Clark in most team stat categories, being barely outshot by the Cougars 32-to-27 and holding a 17-to-15 advantage in turnovers. Both teams converted three free-position shot opportunities. Clark was a perfect 11-for-11 on clears while Emerson went 15-for-17. The biggest discrepancy was in draw controls, as Clark racked up 24 to Emerson's nine.

Emerson was outplayed by Clark in the first half. The Cougars were out to an 8-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended it to 16-5 by halftime. Liakos, Labella, and Lucas scored all of their respective goals in the half.

Both teams scored one goal in the third quarter, putting the score at 17-6. Greer McCarty (Sr. - White River Junction, VT) recorded the goal for Clark while Grace Danehy (Jr. - Mansfield, MA) had the score for Emerson. The Lions outscored the visitors in the final quarter, 5-1, to make the score 18-11 at the final buzzer. The lone Cougars goal was scored by Angela Borelli (Sr. - West Haven, CT), while Longstreet scored three and Selby scored two for the Lions.

Both teams play again on Saturday afternoon in a pair of NEWMAC matchups. Emerson travels to New London, CT to take on Coast Guard at noon while Clark heads to South Hadley, MA for a 1:00 p.m. game against Mount Holyoke.
