Women's Lacrosse Overpowered by Smith, 20-5

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Emerson was shut out in the second and third periods as they fell 20-5 to Smith in NEWMAC women's lacrosse action.

Maddy Reyes (San Ramon, Calif.) scored two times for the Lions; Ava DelliCompagni (Coatesville, Pa.), Holland Rutter (Pingree Grove, Ill), and Ava Selby (Boonsboro, Md.) combined for the other three.

Emerson falls to 5-9 (2-7 NEWMAC) this season, while Smith improves to 8-8 (5-4 NEWMAC).

GAME SUMMARY
Smith was out to an early lead after the first quarter, outscoring Emerson 10-1 in the period. DelliCompagni scored the only goal for the Lions with 8:51 remaining, assisted by Callie Krosin (Pikesville, Md.).

Emerson was held scoreless in the second and third quarters, while the Pioneers scored three and four goals in the respective periods to take a 17-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Smith would score three more times in the final quarter to get their total to 20. Emerson scored four times, with Reyes accounting for a goal with 11:58 remaining off a pass by Bree Biesiadecki (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) and another on her own at 10:14.

Selby later scored with 5:21 remaining, assisted by Grace Danehy (Mansfield, Mass.), and Rutter scored an unassisted goal with seven seconds left to put the Lions' total at five.
