Women's Lacrosse Falls to Salve Regina in Season Finale

BOSTON, Mass. - Women's lacrosse hosted NEWMAC rivals Salve Regina on Wednesday evening in the Lions' last match-up of the season.

The stakes were different for both teams - Emerson had already been eliminated from playoff contention, but were looking to cap the season on a high note with a win; meanwhile, a win for the Seahawks would secure a spot as one of the lower seeds in their first NEWMAC Championship tournament.

In the end, Salve propelled themselves to victory by outscoring their hosts 7-2 in the second quarter and 6-0 in the fourth. Emerson concludes their season at 5-10 (2-8 NEWMAC), while the Seahawks head to the postseason at 11-6 (5-5 NEWMAC) and in possession of the No. 7 seed in the conference tournament.

GAME SUMMARY
The score was tied at three heading into the second quarter. Maddy Reyes scored twice, first to open the scoring at 14:17 and again while Emerson was a player up with 2:19 remaining. Callie Krosin scored the other goal in a player-up situation with 4:03 remaining, with some help from Holland Rutter.

The score was still locked at 8:36 in the second period, this time at five, before the Seahawks scored four unanswered goals to close out the half with a 9-5 lead. Grace Danehy scored at 13:24, and Ava DelliCompagni got in the goal column at 10:23 off a pass by Krosin.

Both teams scored three times in the third quarter to put the score at 13-8 heading into the final period. Danehy scored her second of the game at 12:22, and Lauren Longstreet scored not long after at 11:15. DelliCompagni recorded the other Lions goal at 5:08.

Salve closed out the game by scoring six goals and shutting out the Lions in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks outshot their hosts 42-33 as Lindsey Wettstein made 15 saves in her fifth career start in goal.

Longstreet finished the regular season as the team leader in goals scored with 38, while Krosin led in assists with 25. Krosin was also the co-leader in total points with 47, sharing the pedestal with DelliCompagni, who tallied an impressive 31 goals and 16 assists in her first collegiate season.
