Danehy's Overtime Game-Winner Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Women's lacrosse traveled to western Mass on Monday evening for a NEWMAC matchup against Mount Holyoke College. The Lions won 19-18 in overtime, but not without controversy, as an apparent game-winner for Mount Holyoke was overruled by officials and taken off the board.

Ava DelliCompagni was the leader on offense for Emerson, scoring six goals in the contest. Maddy Reyes and Callie Krosin also shined, both tallying three goals and two assists.

The Lions improved to 5-9 (2-7 NEWMAC). Mount Holyoke falls to 1-13 (0-7 NEWMAC).

Game Summary
Emerson held a 14-8 lead coming out of halftime, but their hosts would end up nearly turning the tide in the third quarter.

Krosin scored the first goal of the period for Emerson with 10:07 remaining, assisted by Bree Biesiadecki. Reyes scored the second by herself with 43 seconds remaining. Those two goals would be all that would come for the Lions in the period. Mount Holyoke scored six to put the score at 16-14 heading into the final quarter of play.

Mount Holyoke scored twice in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to tie the score at 16. DelliCompagni and Grace Danehy later got the lead back for the Lions with a pair of unassisted goals. Mount Holyoke scored two more goals with 2:48 and 2:29 remaining to force overtime. The game was tied 18-18.

After almost ten minutes of scoreless action, Mount Holyoke appeared to have broken through with 5:38 remaining. However, the game officials did not immediately rule it a goal. They spent almost 20 minutes conferring before waving the goal off. Reportedly, the scorer's stick was not deemed readily available to the officials for post-goal inspection.

Emerson was awarded the ball once play resumed, but the Lions spent little time ending it. Danehy scored the game-winner with 5:07 remaining, sealing the win for Emerson in a controversial fashion.
