THE LEAD
Ava Selby led Emerson in scoring with three goals, while three other Lions tallied two each, but it wasn't enough to overcome Wheaton's offensive production for the night. Women's lacrosse is now 0-2 in conference play, joining Wellesley and Mount Holyoke as the only teams on the NEWMAC without a conference win so far this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams created a similar amount of goal-scoring chances throughout the game, with Emerson taking 30 shots and the hosts taking 36 attempts. Wheaton was more successful in taking care of the ball, committing 17 turnovers, and converting clearing attempts, going a perfect 22-for-22. Emerson had 25 turnovers and went 15-25 on clearing attempts. The Lyons also had more success controlling loose balls, with the home teams tallying 36 ground balls to Emerson's 20.
- Ava Selby scored two goals in the first quarter (14:28, unassisted; 10:40, free position shot), and added her third of the game in the fourth (10:16, assisted by Krosin). Maddy Reyes, Callie Krosin, and Ava Dellicompagni each scored two for the Lions. Reyes scored in the third (4:59, unassisted) and fourth (13:52, unassisted); Krosin converted back-to-back scores in the second (7:18, unassisted; 6:38, assisted by Reyes); and DelliCompagni scored in the third (7:27, assisted by Longstreet) and the end of the fourth (0:21, free position shot). DelliCompagni also had a solid game on defense, being responsible for three caused turnovers.
- The opposing side was led by Avonlea LeBeau, who scored six goals in the competition, four of which were recorded in the first quarter. Wheaton enjoyed a high-scoring night from Lara Finnie, who scored five goals in the game and recorded the 100th of her collegiate career. Another key player in the Lyons' win was Riley Kilbourn, who had a hand in six total goals on the night by scoring three and assisting on three. Katie Geis started in goal for the Lyons making six saves and allowing five goals. She was replaced by Jenna Langan at the start of the second half, saving two and allowing two before being subbed out for the fourth quarter by Makenna Gilman, who made four saves and allowed two.

NEXT UP
Women's lacrosse continues NEWMAC play on Saturday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m., as they play host to Babson College at Rotch Field. The Beavers have played to a lot of success, amassing a 6-1 overall record and 3-0 NEWMAC record, with the three in-conference victories coming against Coast Guard, Smith, and Mount Holyoke. Babson also made its debut in the top 25 of this week's IWLCA Division III poll, slotting in at #23.
