NORTHAMPTON, Mass.- The sixth-seeded Emerson College women's soccer team upended No. 3 seed Smith 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Emerson seized an early 1-0 lead, opening the scoring less than three minutes into the match. Linae Bezdek (Frisco, Texas) converted a penalty kick to net her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
- The Lions added their second tally of the match in the 82nd minute to stretch the gap to 2-0. Zoe Simmons (Los Angeles, Calif.) headed in her second marker of the season off of a cross from Lauren Carlson (Fountain Hills, Ariz.).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Six different players recorded a shot on the day for the visitors as Linae Bezdek (Frisco, Texas), Zoe Simmons (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Katie Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) each fired one shot on goal.
- Senior goalkeeper Amara Schaub (Redondo Beach, Calif.) tallied three saves in her 70th career start.
- Emerson concluded the contest with six shots while Smith finished with seven attempts.
SURVIVE AND ADVANCE:
With the victory, Emerson advances to the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in program history. The Lions will face the winner of Tuesday night's quarterfinal match between Springfield and WPI. The semifinal match will be played November 7 at the higher seed.
