Women’s Basketball Knocks Off Suffolk, 53-48

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's basketball team returned to the win-column with a 53-48 victory over Suffolk Sunday afternoon at the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Emerson established an 18-12 lead after one quarter of play.
  • The Lions managed eight points in the second period while the Rams mustered just four points as the hosts boasted a 26-16 halftime advantage.
  • Emerson outscored Suffolk 17-14 in the third to widen the margin to 43-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Lions extended their lead to 16 points, the largest gap of the game, as Sofia Canter (Los Angeles, Calif.) splashed a corner trey to open the fourth quarter, 46-30.
  • Suffolk battled back to cut the deficit to 49-44 with 2:03 left to play on a three-pointer by Jordan Moreau.
  • Each team chalked up four points down the stretch as Emerson hung on to earn a 53-48 win.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Claire English (Winchester, Mass.) notched her second-consecutive double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 boards.
  • Sofia Canter (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied nine points off the bench.
  • Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) finished with 11 rebounds, seven points, and five assists.
  • Emerson posted a field-goal percentage of 31% on the afternoon to go with a 5-for-24 effort from long distance.
  • Suffolk shot 31.6% from the floor and connected on just 3-of-18 from three-point range in the contest.
  • Jordan Moreau paced the Rams with 17 points while Olivia Verdile added 10 points off the bench.
