Women’s Basketball Downed by Houghton, 71-63

BOSTON, Mass.- The Emerson College women's basketball team dropped a 71-63 decision to Houghton Saturday afternoon at the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Houghton held a narrow 13-11 edge after the opening 10 minutes of play.
  • Emerson exploded for 21 points in the second frame while the visitors chalked up 13 as the home side sported a 32-26 lead at the midway point of the contest.
  • The Highlanders outscored the Lions 19-15 in the third quarter as Emerson clung to a slim 47-45 edge.
  • A corner trey by Sofia Canter (Los Angeles, Calif.) gave the hosts a 56-55 advantage with 3:55 remaining.
  • After Houghton responded with a three-pointer, Charlotte Levison (Atherton, Calif.) rolled in a layup before drilling a free throw to give the Lions a 59-58 edge with 2:55 to go.
  • The Highlanders closed out the game with a 10-2 run to hand Emerson its first loss of the year.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Claire English (Winchester, Mass.) recorded a double-double on the afternoon, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) posted a near-triple-double with 11 points, 10 assists, and eight boards.
  • Charlotte Levison (Atherton, Calif.) chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
  • Emerson shot 40% from the floor and 25% from three-point territory.
  • Houghton concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 35.8% to go with a 10-for-28 effort from beyond the arc.
  • Crysta LaCrosse poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the Highlanders while Kayla Camacho netted 21 points.
