Men’s Basketball Secures 76-73 Win at Salem State

SALEM, Mass.- The Emerson College men's basketball team triumphed at Salem State 76-73 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After Salem State pulled even at 35-35 on a three-pointer late in the first frame, Emerson claimed a 37-35 edge just before the halftime intermission on a bucket by Shay Roban (Long Island, N.Y.).
  • The Lions extended their advantage to 47-39 as Guillermo Gasset Ruiz (Malaga, Spain) knocked down a jumper with 16:25 remaining in the second stanza.
  • The Vikings strung together a 13-1 run to seize a 52-48 lead with 13:03 left to play.
  • Emerson utilized an 8-0 burst late in the game to transform a five-point deficit into a 74-71 lead. Following a pair of free throws by Jacob Armant (Arlington, Texas), Lucas Brenner (Miami, Fla.) splashed two treys to vault the visitors ahead with less than a minute on the clock.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Lucas Brenner (Miami, Fla.) netted a team-best 18 points to go with six rebounds and four assists
  • Trevor Arico (Saline, Mich.) tallied 13 points and grabbed five boards.
  • Asher Gardiner (Chrsitchurch, New Zealand) notched 12 points and six rebounds.
  • Jacob Armant (Arlington, Texas) chipped in with 10 points, converting 10-of-10 free throw attempts.
  • Emerson shot 38.9% from the floor and 30% from beyond the arc on the day.
  • Salem State finished with a field-goal percentage of 43.5% while draining 9-of-24 from three-point range.
  • Omri Merryman poured in a game-high 22 points to pace the home side while LJ Hicks registered 20 points.
