The Lead: Goals from
Thomas Chuaqui and
Luke Maxwell helped push the Emerson Men's Soccer Team past the cross-town rival Wentworth Leopards on Tuesday evening at Rotch Field.
First-Half
The game kicked off with high energy as both teams vied for control. Emerson was quick to make their mark on the scoreboard when, in the 42nd minute,
Thomas Chuaqui broke through Wentworth's defense. Chuaqui's precise shot found the back of the net, assisted by
Theodore Bushara, giving Emerson a 1-0 lead.
Wentworth, despite producing numerous opportunities, found themselves thwarted by Emerson's solid defensive line and the outstanding goalkeeping of
Wylie Jelinek. Wentworth's Caleb Robbins and Kyle Hallahan made some threatening attempts but couldn't find the equalizer.
Second-Half
As the second half began, Wentworth looked determined to bounce back and level the score. Their persistence was evident in the number of shots they took, but they were repeatedly denied by Jelinek, who maintained a clean sheet.
Emerson, on the other hand, extended their lead in the 87th minute.
Luke Maxwell capitalized on a beautifully orchestrated play involving
Jorah Delbanco and
Evan Lee, hammering the ball into the net and solidifying Emerson's 2-0 lead.
