The Lead: The Emerson softball team hosted NEWMAC opponent Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field. Coast Guard's pitching kept the Lions offense at bay as the Lions dropped both games of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coast Guard wasted no time getting the scoring started and putting the Lions in a deep deficit. The Bears scored 7 runs on 5 hits in the top of the first inning. Before the Lions offense even got a chance, they were 7-0.
- The Lions went down in order in the bottom of the first inning, followed by two more runs scored by Coast Guard in the top of the second inning.
- The Lions chipped into the lead during the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd inning. Grace Beaulieu drove in the Lions first run on a single to left field. Mackenzie Killough drove in a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to cut the Bears lead to 11-3.
- The Bears added one more insurance run in the top of the 4th inning as Coast Guard's Isabella Shroyer kept the Lions bats quiet during the 4th and 5th innings as this game would end due to the mercy rule in 5 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears again wasted no time getting their offense going. With two outs in the top of the first inning, Lillia Farlow drove a 2-run homerun over the left field fence, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.
- The Bears struck again in the top of the 4th inning, adding another run to their total.
- After 4 innings, the Bears led 4-0 while their starter, Dana Walker kept the Lions offense off balance. The Lions didn't record their first and only hit of the game until the 4th inning when Sam Zannotti drove a ball to the left center gap for a double.
- The Bears tacked on 5 runs in the top of the 7th inning to put the game out of reach. Emerson went down in order in the bottom of the 7th as this game finished 8-0 in favor of Coast Guard.
