The Lead: The Emerson softball team dropped two games to crosstown rival MIT on Friday afternoon. Claire Overton led the Lions offense with 4 RBI, but that was not enough for the Lions to prevail.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game one of this NEWMAC twinbill was a pitcher's duel between Jessica Gomez and MIT's C. Langmeyer. Both throwing complete games.
- MIT got the best of the Lions, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI double from Bivin.
- The Engineers pushed another un across in the top of the fifth inning, but the one run would prove to be enough as the Lions offense could not get going and push any runs across.
- The Lions ultimately dropped game one of the doubleheader by a score of 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game two provided more offense on both sides. MIT again scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning when Snell drilled a homerun over the centerfield fence.
- MIT struck again in the top of the 3rd inning, adding 4 more runs on 4 hits, including a 2-run homerun by M. Cable.
- The Lions were able to get one run back in the home half of the 3rd inning when Claire Overton doubled home Sam Zannotti. After three complete innings, the Engineers were ahead by a score of 5-1.
- The Engineers offense again rallied in the top of the 5th inning, scoring 5 runs on 4 hits. This extended their lead to 9-1.
- The Lions fought back in the home half of the inning, led by an Overton homerun to deep centerfield. This sparked the Lions rally as they scored two more runs. After 5 innings, the Lions trailed by six runs.
- Overton continued her hot streak on the day with a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the 6th inning to keep the Lions hopes alive.
- Overton finished with 4 RBI on the day, but that was not enough as the Engineers completed the doubleheader sweep at Rotch Field.

The Lions return have a quick turnaround as they welcome in Coast Guard on Saturday, April 8th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30pm.
