The Lead: The Emerson softball team split their doubleheader with NEWMAC opponent Clark University on Friday afternoon. Carly Rosenberger and Mackenzie Rice led the Lions offense in game one with 2 RBI each while Jessica Gomez was dominant on the mound; striking out 11 batters. Sam Zannotti had two hits for the Lions in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson did all their damage during the bottom of the second inning. Sam Zannotti led off the inning with a walk, followed by back-to-back singled by Grace Beaulieu and Steph Trendell. With the bases loaded, Mackenzie Rice singled to left field, plating Zannotti and Beaulieu. Carly Rosenberger followed with a 2-RBI single to left field, plating Trendell and Rice. After two complete innings, the Lions led 4-0.
- Clark cut into the Lions lead in the top of the fifth inning when Samantha Crowley singled in a run. This was the only run in the game for the Cougars as Jessica Gomez was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete game and striking out 11 Cougars.
- The Lions secured a 4-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars started the scoring in the top of the first inning when Rebecca Mauro singled in the first run of the game.
- The Lions struck back in the home half of the first inning. Mackenzie Rice beat out and infield single, followed by Claire Overton driving a double to right-center, plating Emerson's first run of the game. After one inning, the game was tied 1-1.
- The Lions took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning when they pushed a run across on a fielder's choice.
- The Cougars retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning, plating two runs on 3 hits. After four innings, the Cougars led the Lions by a score of 3-2.
- Clark extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on only one hit and capitalizing on an Emerson error.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, Beaulieu singled to right-center, plating Zannotti and cutting the Cougars lead to 6-3.
- Clark added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, giving them a 7-3 lead. The Lions bats went quietly in the bottom of the seventh inning, securing a doubleheader split with the Cougars.

The Lions continue their homestand as they play host to Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday, April 22 at Rotch Field. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:30pm.
