The Lead: The Emerson softball team dropped their opening NEWMAC doubleheader against Springfield on Saturday afternoon at Potter Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game one Saturday was a pitcher's duel between Emerson's Jessica Gomez and Gillian Kane, both throwing complete games.
- The difference in the game came in the home half of the 2nd inning when Springfield's Maggie Britt drove a 2-RBI double to left field, giving Springfield a 2-0 lead after two complete innings.
- Emerson threatened to push a run across in the top of the 4th inning as they had runners on second and third with 2 outs but were unable to capitalize.
- Ultimately, Gillian Kane was able to shut down the Lions offense and lead the Pride to a 2-0 victory in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Springfield broke the scoreless streak in the home half of the first inning of game two, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. The Lions limited the damage as Springfield left the bases loaded.
- The Lions evened the score in the top of the 2nd inning. Grace Beaulieu singled in Claire Overton and on the next play Jessica Gomez was able to score when Beaulieu stole second base. Carly Rosenberger then drove in Beaulieu to complete Emerson's 3-run inning.
- The Pride was able to re-take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. After two complete innings, Springfield led 4-3.
- The Pride extended their lead in the bottom of the 5th inning when they scored three more runs on four hits. After 5 complete innings, Springfield led by a score of 7-3.
- Overton was able to cut into the Pride's lead during the next half inning with an RBI double. This would be the last run the Lions would score as they fell to Springfield by a score of 7-4
