The Lead: Led by a dominant pitching performance by Jessica Gomez and a grand slam by Sam Zannotti, the Emerson softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over cross-town rival Suffolk University on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions broke the scoreless tie in a big way in the top of the 3rd inning. Scoring 4 runs on 3 hits and capitalizing on a Suffolk error.
- Sam Zannotti got the rally started with a single to right center. Four batters later, Kit Zenga drove in 2 of her game-high 3 RBI with a single to left field. Mackenzie Killough was able to score on a throwing error, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. The Lions pushed one more run across later in the inning, capping off a 4-run top of the 3rd inning.
- Gomez added another run for the Lions in the top of the 5th inning with an RBI single.
- Leading 5-0 headed into the 6th inning, Emerson tacked on 4 more runs with the help of a Zenga double, and singled from Killough and Gomez.
- Jessica Gomez spun another gem on the mound as she held the Rams to 6 hits through 6 innings and struck out 5. The Lions won game one by a score of 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson again struck first in game two on the day when Kit Kenga doubled to left center, driving in Mackenzie Killough; giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
- Suffolks bats would finally wake up in the home half of the 3rd inning when they score 4 runs on 5 hits. This offensive explosion gave Suffolk their first lead of the day at 4-1 after three complete innings.
- The Lions chipped into the Rams lead in the next half inning when Ally Lacey drove in Gomez with a single to left field.
- The Lions took control of the game in the top of the 5th inning, scoring 9 runs on 6 hits, highlighted by Sam Zannotti's first career homerun; coming in the form of a grand slam giving the Lions an 11-4 lead.
- Suffolk would claw back with 2 runs each in the bottom of the 6th and 7th but Emerson also added 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning with help from a 2-RBI single by Mackenzie Killough.
- Gomez came in during the 6th inning to help close the door on the Rams and secure her second win of the day.
