Softball Drops Two to Emmanuel (Mass)

The Lead: The Emerson softball team rallied late in game two of their doubleheader but dropped both games to crosstown foe Emmanuel College on Tuesday afternoon.


GAME ONE:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Lylah Niederbergen: 3-3, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored 1 HR

Tianna Dawe: 7 IP, 2 earned runs, 3 Ks

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Lylah Niederbergen broke the scoreless tie in the home half of the 3rd inning with a homer to center field. Emmanuel would later push a run across with a SAC fly, giving them a 2-0 lead after 3 innings.
  • Emmanuel scrapedd across another un in the bottom of the 5th inning, before opening their lead with a 4-run 6th inning. Three hits by Emmanuel and 2 errors by Emerson led the the 4-run inning and a 7-0 lead for Emmanuel.
  • The Lions were able to get on the board in the top of the 7th inning when Mackenzie Rice and Carly Rosenberger both drove in runs, but that was not enough as Emmanuel hurler, Tianna Dawe shut the door on the complete game and Emmanuel won game one of the double-header 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Lions got on the scoreboard first when Mackenzie Killough homered to centerfield with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd inning. The 2-run homer gave Emerson a 2-0 lead.
  • Emmanuel was able to get one run back in the home half of the inning, cutting the Lions lead to 2-1.
  • Both offenses remained quiet until the bottom of the 6th inning when Emmanuel was able to even the score at 2-2.
  • The Lions pulled away late in the game when Kit Kenga doubled to left field with the bases loaded, clearing the bases and breaking the 2-2 tie to give Emerson a 5-2 lead.
  • The Lions were unable to close the door on Emmanuel in the bottom of the 7th inning as they surrendered 3 runs of 4 hits. Emmanuel tied the game and sent it to extra innings.
  • Emerson was able to manufacture a run in the top of the 8th inning, giving them a 6-5 lead.
  • Emmanuel was again able to come up clutch in the bottom of the 8th inning and score 2 runs to secure a walk off victory in game two and complete the doubleheader sweep.

 

 

 

UP NEXT 

The Lions return to action on Friday, March 24th as they head across town to East Boston to take on Suffolk for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
