The Lead: The Emerson Women's Soccer team completed a comeback victory in the first round of the NEWMAC Championship as they continue their quest to repeat as NEWMAC Champions. Goals from
Madeline Khaw and
Simone Barragan-Shaw lifted the Lions past Coast Guard on Tuesday evening at Rotch Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
1"- Coast Guard took an early lead when Mia Forti found the back of the net. Emerson found themselves in an early 1-0 deficit to begin the NEWMAC Tournament.
-After an early goal by Coats Guard, neither team was able to score as the game entered halftime with Coast Guard ahead 1-0.
Second Half:
67"- The Lions were able to respond early in the second half when
Madeline Khaw beat the Coast Guard keeper on a pass from
Gina Lukoskie; this tied the game at 1-1 with just over 30 minutes remaining in regulation.
72"- The Lions took the lead just 5 minutes later when
Simone Barragan-Shaw found the back of the net on a long crossing pass from by
Alianna West-Rodrigues. This goal put the Lions up by a score of 2-1 with just under 30 minutes left in regulation.
-The Lions defense and goalkeeper
Amara Schaub were able to stifle the Bears attack for the remainder of the second half as they secured a come-from-behind victory on the opening round of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. With the win, the Lions advance to the NEWMAC semifinals where they will head to Babson on Thursday, November 2.
